Dr-Arif-AlviPresident Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday said that there was a need to translate the goodwill between Pakistan and Bosnia & Herzegovina into substantive cooperation.
He expressed these views during a meeting with Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sefik Dzaferovic here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President extended a warm welcome to the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and expressed satisfaction over the warm and brotherly relations between the two countries. He added that the Chairman’s visit would further strengthen and deepen the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Both leaders underlined the need for further expansion in the bilateral relationship in diverse areas including political, economic, cultural, defence and people-to-people contacts.
President Alvi apprised the Chairman on the grave and systematic human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) as well as the illegal and unilateral actions of Indian Government of 5 August 2019 which were against UNSC Resolutions, international law and 4th Geneva Convention.
India’s belligerent attitude was a threat to regional peace and security, he added.
The two leaders affirmed that both countries would continue to extend mutual support on issues of each other’s core national interest. The two Presidents also agreed that Pakistan and Bosnia & Herzegovina must continue to work closely in areas of mutual interest.
In recognition of the Chairman’s services, the President conferred the Award of Nishan-e-Pakistan at a special investiture ceremony. The President later hosted a banquet in honour of the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and his entourage.
President Dr Arif Alvi Thursday conferred the country’s highest civil award Nishan-e-Pakistan on the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Šefik Džaferovic at a special investiture ceremony. The ceremony held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, besides the delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was attended among others by the members of Federal Cabinet, Governor Sindh and senior officers. National anthems of Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina were also played on the occasion.
Earlier, President Dr Arif Alvi warmly welcomed Šefik Džaferovic, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina upon arrival at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The distinguished guest was also presented a bouquet on this occasion. Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina is on a two-day (November 4-5) official visit of Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa said that Pakistan attaches “great importance” to its “brotherly relations” with Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Gen Qamar passed the remarks in a meeting with Chairman of Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sefik Dzaferovic during his visit to the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
“Pakistan attaches great importance to brotherly relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and is proud of strong bond of love and support between people of two countries,” Gen Bajwa told the Bosnian official.
According to ISPR, the two discussed “enhanced bilateral cooperation in various fields including defence, technical expertise and joint ventures”. It added that matters of mutual interest, regional security were also discussed apart from the Pak-Bosnia and Herzegovina relations.
The military’s media wing said that Dzaferovic also acknowledged Pakistan’s continuous efforts for peace and stability in the region. The Bosnian leader pledged to further enhance bilateral relations between both brotherly countries.

The ISPR said that on his arrival at the GHQ, the Bosnian leader was presented guard of honour and also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.
